3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see
6.3) in accordance with 4.3.
3.2 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable material. Recycled, recovered, or
environmentally preferable materials are used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material
meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically
advantageous life cycle costs.
3.2.1 Basic material. The basic material for the outer shell (crown, earlap, forehead flap, and
binding) will be cotton warp and nylon filling oxford cloth, conforming to class 3 of
MIL-C-3924. The cloth for the sweatband will be either class 3 or class 2 dyed Camouflage Green
483 material of MIL-C-3924. As an alternative, the cloth may be printed seconds, or dyed the ground
