3.9 Workmanship. The finished swimmers trunks shall conform to the quality of product established by
this specification. Proper seam allowance and stitching shall be maintained to prevent raw edges, run-
offs, twists, pleats, puckers or open seams. All seams shall start and finish evenly. Thread tension shall
be maintained so there is no tight or loose stitching. All stitching shall be uniformly gauged throughout
the trunks. All loose threads shall be removed from the trunks.
4.
VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspection. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as
follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.2)
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3.1)
4.2 First article inspection. When a first article is required (see 3.1), it shall be examined for
the requirements of Table V.

4.3. First article units. The trunks selected as first article units from the sample lot shall be
thoroughly checked for dimensional and visual conformance to this purchase description. The sample
size of the first article lot shall be specified in the contract. The samples shall be representative of the
construction, workmanship, components, and materials to be used during production. The first article
inspection samples shall be furnished to the Government as directed by the contract (see 6.2).
4.3.1 Conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, conformance testing shall be
performed on production lot articles for the requirements of Table VI. Sampling for the inspection shall
be performed in accordance with ANZI/ASQC Z1.4 (see 6.2).
