GLOVES, MEN'S; CLOTH, LEATHER PALM WITH GAUNTLET
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Type II, Class 1 of JJ-G-451.
1. SCOPE. This document covers gloves for use as work gloves in the following type and style as specified:
Type I - Gunn cut pattern with gauntlet and knuckle reinforcement
Style 1 - 5 inch long gauntlet
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Description. The gloves will utilize the Gunn pattern, with a leather palm with gauntlet and knuckle reinforcement.
2.2 Material.
2.2.1 Leather. The leather for the front of fingers, back of fingertips, front and back thumb, knuckle reinforcement piece, palm with gauntlet reinforcement extension, and the protective welt for the seam joining fingers to palm will be chrome tanned, flesh split from cattlehide bends. and will be suitable for use in gloves. Both sides of the leather will be smooth and free of loose flesh. Middle splits, head splits, belly splits and shoulder splits will not be used. All leather parts, except the welt, will be 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 ounces thick when tested as specified in ASTM-D-1814. (Note: One ounce is equivalent to 1/64 inch). The welt will be 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 ounces thick when tested as specified in ASTM-D-1814.
