Examination for preparation for delivery. A random sample of unit, intermediate and shipping containers (as applicable) shall be selected from each lot and examined for conformance with the preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking required in the contract or order. Samples shall be selected in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Inspection level II, AQL of 6.5 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units.
Regulatory requirements. In accordance with section 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the Government’s policy is to acquire items composed of the highest percentage of recovered materials practicable, consistent with maintaining a satisfactory level of competition without adversely affecting performance requirements of exposing supplier’s employees to undue hazards from the recovered materials.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. in addition to the requirements specified in the contract or order the following requirements shall be fulfilled. The bags shall be individually folded at least three times for storage and handling convenience, and shall be packed in unit packages of 25 bags each. The unit packages shall be enclosed in a polyethylene bag or wrap and waterproof sealed. A card or sheet with instructions describing the proper use and storage conditions for the bags shall be affixed to the outside of each unit package or, alternatively, placed on the inside of the unit package with the instructions facing outward and clearly legible. The card or sheet shall include the type (cold (I) or hot (II) water soluble), size, and month and year packed.
Notes. Purchasers should specify size, and whether hot or cold water soluble bags are required.
The issues of ASTM D 1922 and MIL-STD-105 in effect on the date of the solicitation or purchase order shall be used to determine compliance with the requirements stated herein.
