Workmanship. The bags shall be free from any weakening defects such as tears, pinholes, foreign matter, irregular creases, improperly sealed seams, or any other defects which would affect serviceability.
Quality Assurance:
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
Sampling. The laundry bags shall be sampled and inspected in accordance with Military Standard MIL-STD-105, Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes”, for conformance to the construction, dimensions, workmanship, and testing requirements herein, using special inspection level S-2, AQL 4.0 defects per hundred units. Any deviation from the dimensional requirements shall constitute a defect.
Lot size. All bags of the same type and size presented for inspection at one time shall be considered a lot for purposes for inspection.
Tests:
Tear resistance. Test specimens shall be cut to constant-radius form and tested in accordance with ASTM D 1922.
Film disintegration. A specimen of film shall be cut to a constant-radius for in accordance with ASTM D 1922 from the same bag the tear resistance test specimens were obtained. In addition, a specimen the full width of the tie closure and 1.25 to 1.5 inches long shall be cut from the bag’s tie closure. A petri dish shall be filled approximately 3/4 full of water of the specified temperature (55 degrees Fahrenheit minimum for the Type I bags and 140 degrees Fahrenheit minimum for the type II bags). A single specimen shall be carefully placed upon the surface of the water in such a manner to prevent the film folding back upon itself. The specimen shall be visually observed for signs of disintegration within the specified time (40 seconds for type I and 50 seconds for type II). Failure to show signs of disintegration within the time and at the water temperature specified shall be cause for rejection.
