1.3 Basic material. The gloves shall be made from chrome tanned, flesh splits from cattle hide bends, and shall be suitable for use in gloves. Both sides of the leather shall be smooth and free of loose flesh. Middle splits, head splits, belly splits, and shoulder splits shall not be used. The weight shall be 3 to 4 ounces, except for the gauntlet where a minimum 2-1/2 ounce leather may be used in combination with a gauntlet lining material, The color shall be cream or gray. The component parts of the leather for each pair of gloves shall be of the same color.
1.4 Palm lining. The lining for the palms of the gloves shall be unbleached cotton canton flannel fabric napped on one side and having a minimum weight of 6 ounces per square yard.
1.5 Gauntlet lining. When used, the gauntlet lining shall be made of unbleached hard texture cotton duck fabric weighing not less than 17 ounces per square yard, or layers of plain weave cotton or spun polyester fabric laminated together with synthetic resin, synthetic rubber, or natural rubber.
1.6 Gauntlet binding. The gauntlet binding shall be stitched to and shall be of sufficient width to cover each side of the gauntlet top edge with no unraveling of raw edges. The color of the binding shall approximate the color of the leather.
1.7 Thread and staples. The thread sewn portions of the gloves shall be sewn with polyester thread. The staples for stitching and reinforcement shall be formed of flat steel wire having a corrosion resistant finish.
1.8 Tacking. Each pair of gloves shall be matched, paired, and tacked together so that they can be easily pulled apart without damage.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE
2.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify, and maintain substantiating evidence, that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and requirements of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
2.2 Quality conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105.
2.3 Visual examination. Each lot of gloves shall be examined for consumer type defects, defined as follows:
Defects in design, material, construction, workmanship; any component full, tight, or twisted; open seam; any size hole, cut, tear; any staple not securely clinched, or any burr or sliver; any spot or stain clearly noticeable.
