COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SMOCK, MAN’S; GENERAL PURPOSE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification DDD-S-486.
This commercial item description covers wrap-around, reversible front style smocks.
Salient characteristics:
The smocks shall consist of a one-piece back joined to the two front pieces at sides and shoulders, elbow-length sleeves, two hip pockets, and one optional breast pocket. Hand openings shall be provided in each side seam for access to trouser pockets. Belt ties shall be attached to the edges of the front opening. When the smock is worn, the fronts shall overlap permitting one belt tie to pass through the side opening so the belt ties can be fastened in the back. All seams shall be securely stitched and all raw edges shall be faced, hemmed, or over edge stitched to prevent ravelling.
The smocks shall be made from 65 percent polyester/ 35 percent cotton poplin weighing at least 4.5 oz./sq.yd. the minimum breaking strength shall be 100 lbs in the warp direction and 50 lbs in the filling.
For dyed smocks, the sulphur dyes and dyes containing elementary sulphur or sulphur compounds capable of oxidation to sulphuric acid is prohibited.
Certification. The contractor shall certify the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The smocks shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in fiberboard boxes that will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
